Whether to invite kids to the wedding is a decision every couple must make and if you decide to include the little ones in the fun here are some cute ways to entertain them!
PB&J Bar – Let’s face it most kids aren’t going to want to eat the fish or chicken option you’re serving at your reception so why not have a fun, kid-friendly food bar like this PB&J station! Kids would love being able to create their own sandwich with options like peanut butter, jelly, banana slices, Nutella, and marshmallow fluff. No PB&J is complete without the crusts cut off and that’s where the cookie cutters come in!
Notebook and crayons – These kids are going to need some activities so their parents can have fun! Why not create individual notebooks with crayons for each child? Maybe even use it as their place card at the table! To customize them even more, monogram the covers, include your wedding colors in the crayons, and ask them to draw pictures of the wedding for you!
Event Sitters – If you want to invite kids but don’t want their parents having to worry about looking after them or would rather not have the little ones running around the reception, consider hiring a professional event sitting company. These trained caretakers bring everything they need to keep a group of kids entertained while you and your guests dance the night away! Contact Tish at Elegant Event Sitters for more information!
What about you? Are you planning anything fun for the kids at your wedding?

One of the new features of our website is an entirely separate destination events page! We’ve always done them but now destination has its own place to shine!
Planning any event from far away can be extremely stressful and challenging but we’re here to help! We offer all of the same package options to our destination clients as we do to local clients so you’ll get the same great services.
Some of the destinations that have already experienced the magic of A Big To Do Event are: St. Simon’s Island, Georgia; St. Thomas, USVI; Orlando, Florida; Andrews, North Carolina; Kenosha, Wisconsin; Bangkok, Thailand; and Washington, DC.
We’re already so excited about some of our 2013 destination event locations including St. Simon’s Island, Savannah, and Cashiers, North Carolina!
If you’re planning a wedding more than three hours from home, we’d love to help. Whether that means there is sand under your toes or, like one of our brides last year, knew from the time she was two years old that she would get married at the Lovely Lane Chapel in St. Simon’s Island, Georgia, we would love to be part of the team.
We are thrilled to work with Emily and Michael on their 2013 wedding! You know those couples… The ones you know are saying “I love you” with just a look? The ones you know are playing footsie under the table? Yeah… That’s Emily and Michael. So in love.
I had the privilege of spending time with Emily and Michael even before they were engaged during the wedding planning process for her sister, Katie. (To remind you, check out Katie’s Andrews, North Carolina wedding here.)
Emily and Michael will be married at the King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort on June 1, 2013. We’ve gotten a great start on building her dream team of vendors.
Here are their engagement shots. These were all taken on Emily’s parents’ property in Dawsonville, Georgia. Can’t wait until June to show you the gorgeousness that will take over the beach in St. Simons Island, Georgia!

Alright, folks. It’s time to bring Music Monday back! And for this week, I thought we should go old school.
The cool thing about this song is that since it was released in 1970, the chances of it being your parent’s First Dance song is pretty high. That would be neat to have the same song.
Have a listen. What do you think?
Would it be vain to end this new website launch week with pictures of ourselves? Yes? Well maybe we should call this a vendor profile that just happens to feature lots of pictures of ourselves. It’s important that you get a good feeling of who we are. For a more detailed interview, go to our About Us page.
In preparation for the new site we knew we needed to include pictures of the people involved in A Big To Do Event. Call me shallow but if I’m going to have pictures of myself on the internet, I’d prefer they be nothing less than fabulous therefore we called some of the best to help make it happen: Buffy Dekmar Photography and P3 Labs.
We first met Buffy, and her husband and assistant Chris, back in February for DeAnna and Kenneth’s wedding at Foxhall Resort & Sporting Club. You can see more of their wedding here! I could go on and on about how talented Buffy is but let’s save that for a vendor profile. I will say that Buffy and Chris are great at making you feel comfortable in what could be a very uncomfortable situation if picture-taking isn’t your thing.
We can’t wrap up this post without talking about the magic of Mimi Johnson of P3 Labs. As much as I’d like you to believe this is how we look when we wake up, well I probably couldn’t convince you, could I? Mimi did an amazing job with both hair and makeup, if I do say so myself, and we cannot thank her enough.
Brides, take it from me, you’ll want to look into these two vendors for you own wedding!
What could be more perfect than a gorgeous day in August, the beautiful scenery of an amazing venue, and two people in love? Not much, and that’s how we feel about Claire and Scott’s wedding a few weeks ago: it was perfect.
Julie from Peach Blossom Photography captured all the beauty of the day and these photos could not be more gorgeous!
Foxhall Resort & Sporting Club’s Legacy Lookout served as the perfect backdrop as these two tied the knot and then proceeded to party the night away.
Rooms in Bloom provided the amazing décor, and outdid themselves really, to create this romantic ceremony and reception in blush pink, ivory, and green.
Proof of the Pudding served up a feast that our guests couldn’t get enough of. Seriously, it was delicious! Scott Mikell of SE Events kept all the guests on the dance floor til the party ended and with many professional dancers and ballerinas in attendance, that was a necessity!
What do you think of this fun shot of the groomsmen in front of the outdoor fireplace at Foxhall?
Such a sweet first dance moment!
Congratulations Claire and Scott! Such a gorgeous day and we were so thankful to be a part of it!
Out with the old and in the new… website that is. We are so excited to finally be able to tell you our new website has launched! This has truly been a labor of love. And I love that I can tell you to check it out now!

One of the most popular questions I get from Brides is “What’s a good Signature Drink for my reception? You know…One that you haven’t seen anywhere before…?”
My answer: Try this:
Vanilla Poached Pear
The Vanilla Poached Pear, one of our most popular drinks, is a take on classic dessert flavors translated into drinkable form, and for adult enjoyment no less! Now don’t go thinking this is a super-sweet, make your teeth hurt kind of “dessert” drink. We prefer real cocktails, but more importantly, we prefer balance, and that means a perfect marriage between the sweetness of the vanilla syrup and the slight heat of the Hangar One Spiced Pear Vodka. Contrasting elements brought together by the warm, mouth-filling flavor of pure vanilla bean and the richness of ripe pear. Winter is here and red fruit flavors take over so it makes sense to add a splash of Pinot Noir for color and body.
Not too sweet, not too sharp, just a perfectly balanced cocktail that happens to conjure memories of a classic red wine poached pear, and since we’re moving out of pear season this is the only chance to taste it!
Add to shaker:
1.5oz Hangar One Spiced Pear Vodka
.5oz Pinot Noir
.25oz vanilla syrup
Squeeze of lemon wedge
Hard shake 10 count and pour into chilled cocktail glass
Garnish with lemon peel
4 Vanilla beans, split and scraped
3 cups sugar
1.5 cups boiling water
Combine all ingredients except vodka and stir until dissolved.
Add splash of vodka when slightly cooled, stir again, strain and store in refrigerator up to 3 weeks.
