All around the country yesterday, millions of people were actively celebrating the Supreme Court’s decision that the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) is unconstitutional. This is HUGE! While this doesn’t mean that gay marriage is legal (yet), it at least means that we are more on the way to equality. And that deserves a round of applause.
A couple of weeks ago, Special Events magazine asked wedding planners for their viewpoint on gay marriage and how this (then upcoming) decision would affect their clients and the events they host. We believe this ruling will cause families to be more accepting and may encourage more ceremonies involving both sets of parents and families. One of the suggestions Erica mentions in the article came from how one of our couples handled the “handing off” step of the ceremony. “…I also like to suggest that if one or both sets of the parents are supportive, that they walk their child to the middle of the aisle and the partner picks up from there versus the traditional ‘who gives this man/woman away’ part.”

We have been blessed to work with a few same-sex couples creating their day of union. And to be totally honest, the feeling in the room during the entire event was LOVE. The air oozed of love. That’s what it’s all about.
