Stephanie & Brett’s Classy Jewish Wedding at Georgian Terrace Hotel

Stephanie and Brett were one of our favorite couples so far this year. They both live in Miami so all of our planning had to be done via skype, email, and conference calls. Stephanie’s parents live in Atlanta so planning the wedding to happen downtown made sense.

“We would have been lost without Erica!! From the beginning we could tell how organized and experienced she was. Even though we hired her for the month of, she was always available for questions and calls. The month of, she organized the timeline, seating charts, vendors-everything! The day of, I felt like she was our secret service just having everything go smoothly and seamlessly. Whether you think you need a planner or not-you do and you need Erica! My wedding was what it was (amazing!) because of Erica and I can’t thank her enough!!”

Mr. Wajsman wrote a note on WeddingWire to say how much he enjoyed working with us:

“We found Erica of A Big To Do Event through a recommendation from our hotel venue. She will tell you up front that her system is that she starts serious working on the event a month before the event, and then is on-site before the wedding and reception. Erica was able to meet with us even earlier, at our convenience, when our out-of-town daughter was able to come for a visit. From the beginning, Erica displayed confidence and professionalism assuring us that our event would go well. She delivered! She was responsive by phone, email, and video conference. She helped us with issues we had with the venue. She ran a smooth rehearsal, and then she was there early on wedding day, doing all sorts of things for us, staying until the very end of the reception. Erica is worth every penny.”

Thanks, Ira, Karen, Stephanie, and Brett. You and your families were a JOY to work with! Thank you.

We are nominated for an Esprit Award!

ISES_EspritNominee2015
The Esprit Awards are to the event industry as the Grammy’s are to the music industry. To be nominated is an honor. To win is fantastic. (We’ll continue to keep our fingers crossed for that. We’ll know on August 20th.)

I was lucky enough to be part of the team to produce the International Special Events Society LIVE International Conference last year. I was responsible for all of the events that happened outside of the hotel where the attendees stayed and the education happened. A couple of the events I was responsible for include the President’s Reception at the top of the Space Needle, the Opening Night Party, and the Sponsor Thank You Reception.

The other people I had the opportunity to work beside are:
Conference Chair – Terry Singleton, CCP Events
Conference Admin and Cheerleader – Anne Finzer Wadlow, Corporate Event Organization
On-Premise Event Chair – Claudette Bouton, Goldner & Associates
Opening Night Party Lead – David Doxtater, The Workshop
Esprit Chair – Kathy Newby, Stuart Rental Company
Education Chair – Terry Shields, Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek
Registration Chair – Tamra Sipes, CSEP, CEP, ECC, LCS, Platinum Travel and Events
Esprit Event Chair – Shelly Tolo, MPM, Tolo Events
Conference Media Chair – Kelly Treadway, EventCurious

We’re facing two other well-deserving events, the Minnesota Star Awards Celebrating 10 Years, and 2014 ISES Austin Gala & Annual ASE Awards.

May the best event team win! Stay tuned to the blog to see how we did!

Same Sex Wedding: Belinda and Danielle

danielle-belinda-couple-photo

One of the coolest things I get to do is help families celebrate love. Truly. That’s the coolest part of what I do. I get the opportunity every week to bask in the glow that is one person’s love for another. And I don’t care if one of those people is the same sex, religion, or color as the other person. People are people and love is love.

Take a gander at how beautiful this demonstration of love is between Belinda and Danielle at their wedding in April at King Plow Art Gallery in Atlanta, Georgia.

They each signed a document, similar to a ketubah, which is their marriage contract. It’s so pretty and so personal. I love this idea as a keepsake to hang on the bedroom wall after the wedding. Really great ones (for all types of ceremonies – Jewish, Same Sex, heterosexual, etc.) can be found at www.ModernKetubah.com.  Danielle Belinda ceremony vows

Love this guest book idea. Each person signed a puzzle piece and when they got home, they put the puzzle together and read everyone’s well wishes. Then they could glue the puzzle together and keep it as artwork.

These ladies LOVE the movies. Every table was a different movie from their personal favorite movie collection. Each person’s escort card was a box of movie theater candy. Cute, eh? Danielle Belinda table setting grease
When we asked what their drink of choice was all night, they told us. So we made sure they had Mrs. and Mrs. rocks glasses to properly drink their drink of choice all night.

Allison & Gil Military Wedding

One of our core values at A Big To Do Event is honoring our country’s military. As we prepare to celebrate our country’s freedoms, I often find myself reliving wedding memories from our clients who serve in the military. Military weddings are some of my favorite of all of the events we get to do. The protocol, the ceremony, the importance – those are pieces that I just love. So today, as you prepare to enjoy the 4th of July, here’s some pretty from one of our favorite military weddings.

From the first moment I met Allison and she told me her and Gil’s story, I knew I wanted to be part of their military wedding celebration. Gil was stationed in Afghanistan for almost the entirety of their engagement. Most of the planning was done with Allison, her sweet Mom, and Erica with A Big To Do Event. Gil helped with details via skype and email as he could while he was stationed away.

Allison and Sergeant Gil Aiken continued family tradition and said their vows in the same church as Allison’s parents, Peachtree United Methodist Church in Atlanta, Georgia.

(You’ll notice that the men who wear uniforms do not have boutonnieres. It’s considered un-approved decoration.)

allison-gil-bridesmaidsTheir gorgeous reception, held at the Ritz Carlton Buckhead was designed by the family and Christopher Confero Design.

One of my favorite elements of a military wedding is the saber arch ceremony. This ceremony is usually performed immediately after the ceremony, but we did it just as they entered the reception. It is traditional, as the couple recess through the arch of swords, that the last two men to make up the arch lower their swords in front of the couple, detaining them momentarily, while the sword bearer on the right, with his sword, gives the bride a gentle “swat” on the rump and says, “Welcome to the Army.” (Allison opted out of that piece.)

Wowza! It’s been a while…

So, that moment you look at your blog and realize it’s been really long time since your last post… Yeah… About that. Sorry.

But I have great news for you! The separation from the blog was purely because we were so involved with our clients and had a lot of great things going on. We’ve put new systems in place so we can keep all of you updated during the events so you can experience all of the cool stuff going on in our world with us!

10 Years of Creating Magic

One of the coolest things that has happened, is today, we turn 10! On July 1, 2005, A Big To Do Event became official. We’ve been part of all kinds of events in the last decade. Baby Showers, Adoption Parties, Corporate Holiday Parties, Product Launch Events, and of course, Weddings. It’s been a true joy to work with all of our families and clients and to celebrate life with them.

You’ll notice something different also about this – it’s an updated logo! Yep. It was time.

Over the next several weeks, we’ll be updating the blog with new, pretty pictures of weddings and events so you can see what we’ve been up to. You can also stay updated with us on Facebook and Pinterest!
