Happy Planning!

Getting Married in Color

Chances are that your wedding, irrespective of how extravagant or modest the actual event, is going to be one of the most significant events in your life – an event filled with joy, love, and significance. Most brides want to continue a traditional approach and wed in the customary color of white, however that doesn’t mean that they cannot or should not do something a little out of left field to add a touch of color to the big day, perhaps with a natural fancy color diamond.

It has been traditional to receive a diamond ring for an engagement. Until recently, the vast majority of the diamond rings bought contained a colorless diamond. However, that all started to change a few years ago as celebrities started to pick up on a centuries old trend that was the preserve of royalty and wealthy individuals who were “in the know” – fancy colored diamonds.

Fancy color diamonds are a wonder of nature and come in a range of colors including red, blue, green, pink, yellow, purple, violet, gray, chameleon, orange, champagne, white, and black. Pink diamond engagement rings have graced the fingers of celebrities such as J-Lo, Anna Kournikova, and Mariah Carey. Pink is the most popular color of colored diamond and although the best examples of these diamonds can cost around $2 million per carat, there are fine examples available at prices that those with a more limited budget can afford.

As each color comes in different hues and intensities, the same color in a stronger intensity or different secondary hue can have a completely different look to a diamond deemed to be of the same color. In short, with colored diamonds, the options are infinite and there is definitely a perfect stone for your perfect day and one that will add a touch of color to your day.

The fact is that every color of colored diamond matches a white gown, with a color to be found to match every color of gown, irrespective of the color you ultimately select. Also, don’t forget that your wedding only lasts a few hours yet your ring will be your daily companion for decades to come, so keep that in mind when selecting your color.

Colored diamonds may be 10,000 rarer than colorless diamonds, however with the growing popularity of colored diamond engagement and wedding rings, brides walking down the aisle with a colored ring on their finger are no longer 10,000 times rarer than brides with colorless diamonds on their finger.

Our Own Erica Prewett Listed In “25 Event Pros To Watch” Feature in Special Events Magazine

Well I can’t really help it. I am jumping up and down with excitement.

Special Events Magazine just listed our founder, Erica Prewett, as one of the top 25 Event Pros to watch in the July/August 2013 issue! (Page 25)

special events magazine screen shot

The entire list is chalk-full of industry movers and shakers! I am so thrilled to have been noticed as being part of this group.  I consider many in this list to be professionals to which I aspire to emulate. I watch them from afar and pick up as many morsels of knowledge and tips they pass on.  Just thrilling.

(Another Atlanta pro, Sophia Lin with A Legendary Event, is also mentioned.  Like I said, great company!)

Thank you, Special Events Magazine for the mention.  Truly honored.

Happy Decision Day!

Picture from news.blogs.cnn.com

All around the country yesterday, millions of people were actively celebrating the Supreme Court’s decision that the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) is unconstitutional.  This is HUGE!  While this doesn’t mean that gay marriage is legal (yet), it at least means that we are more on the way to equality.  And that deserves a round of applause.

A couple of weeks ago, Special Events magazine asked wedding planners for their viewpoint on gay marriage and how this (then upcoming) decision would affect their clients and the events they host. We believe this ruling will cause families to be more accepting and may encourage more ceremonies involving both sets of parents and families.  One of the suggestions Erica mentions in the article came from how one of our couples handled the “handing off” step of the ceremony.  ”…I also like to suggest that if one or both sets of the parents are supportive, that they walk their child to the middle of the aisle and the partner picks up from there versus the traditional ‘who gives this man/woman away’ part.”

Read the article to see more of what Erica had to say.

We have been blessed to work with a few same-sex couples creating their day of union. And to be totally honest, the feeling in the room during the entire event was LOVE.  The air oozed of love.  That’s what it’s all about.

National Donut Day

Happy Donut Day!

I don’t know about you, but of all of the sweets, donuts are my downfall. The softer and sugary-er, the better! Oh, gosh, and if they’re still warm, be still my heart; I’m in heaven.  So, this morning when I heard it was National Donut Day, I immediately remembered this donut display in lieu of wedding cake one of our brides did last December.  The donuts came from Sublime Donuts in Atlanta and were absolutely divine! They even cut a donut as part of the reception.

While you’re at your favorite donut shoppe today, maybe consider doing donuts instead of a traditional bride or groom cake. I promise your guests will thank you. (At least I will!)

Wish Us Luck!

Tonight we have the honor of being nominated for a prestigious Allie Award (this is basically Oscar’s for the event industry)! We are so happy we were given the opportunity to produce The Party Goddess: Uncensored conference here in Atlanta back in November! The Party Goddess contacted A Big To Do Event all the way from California to plan all the logistics of the event from the staging to the photography. We made some amazing friends along the way and produced an amazing event while we were at it! Wish us luck!
